The India Thermit Corporation was set up in 1951 in collaboration with Elektro-Thermit GmbH for the manufacturing of alumino-thermic portion, pre-fabricated dry moulds and the welding of railway tracks using the SKV process.

Since then the company has grown many folds to become the third largest manufacturer of alumino-thermic portion in the world. We employ over 800 people and have multiple clients in Asia, Europe and Africa. Thermit has also diversified into the production of Flash Butt Welds, Insulated Glued Joints, Aluminum Powder, Ferro Alloys, Bearing Metals, Lining of Bimetallic Plain Bearings, Dies, Moulds and Tools. We now operate five plants based in Kanpur, Jainpur, Bangalore and Nagpur.

Over the past five decades Thermit has been a pioneer in utilizing cutting edge technology in the field of Railway Track Construction and Repair Welding. During this time Thermit welding of rails has not only proved beneficial for passengers by eliminating noise and vibration, but, has also resulted in substantial savings to the Indian Railways through savings in fuel, reduced maintenance costs and longer life for rails and rolling stock.
